Going for Growth
What works at local church level
Bob Jackson
Category: Church Leadership & Resources When I reviewed Jackson's last book, The Road to Growth: Towards a Thriving Church, published by Church House in 2005, I wrote: This very readable book contains a wealth of information, facts and figures and many worthy observations for reflection and action. It demonstrates strategic thinking at its best. However, I wonder how many busy local church leaders will take the time to read and digest it. Could its treasures not be disseminated in another more compact way? Well my wish has been granted. This short, accessible book Going for Growth does just that. It applies the challenging lessons of The Road to Growth to the life of a local church. It is packed with ideas, questions, strategies and case studies. It is deceptively easy to skim read, but that's not the point, each paragraph has a question to be engaged with and there is a very helpful guide to using the material with small groups. This book could best be used by a group revising a Mission Action Plan or producing a Five Year Plan for a church. But it's not just about policies and procedures, it's about people, worship and allowing God to work.
