The Cross - The Great Triumph of Love
Stephen Cottrell is the Bishop of Reading and one of the authors of the Emmaus Course used by many churches, including St Matthew's, for preparation for Confirmation. He offers this book "to help us penetrate the deep mystery of a God who goes on loving, no matter how exorbitant the cost, no matter the obstacles put in the way."
The book has six chapters, one for each week in Lent. Each chapter looks at the words 'I thirst' in a different way. The whole book draws deeply on the passion as it is recorded in John's Gospel. There is plenty of material for prayer, reflection and discussion.
Cottrell writes, "Lent is supposed to be a time when we review our spiritual life, think again about what it means to be a follower of Christ, reset the compass of our discipleship, and prepare ourselves to celebrate the Easter festival. But often we just give up biscuits." This book will challenge you to do rather more than that. It has the potential to be life-changing!
