The Scriptures, the Cross and the Power of God
Tom Wright
Category: Seasonal
Tom Wright, Bishop of Durham (who also writes as N.T. Wright) is a brilliant New Testament scholar but one who can communicate well. He is the author of a series of commentaries on the New Testament called For Everyone and I often refer to them when preparing sermons. This pocket-sized Lent book is based on a series of talks he gave in Holy Week 2005 at Durham Cathedral. They run from Palm Sunday to Easter Morning looking at the relevant passages from Matthew's and John's Gospels. The Bible readings are included and explained in their cultural context. A very readable book which provides plenty of food for thought.
