Third Space Books is the online identity of the St Stephen the Great Bookshops (also known as the Stephen the Great Charitable Trust, SSG and/or SSGCT), the organisation that took control of the former SPCK Bookshops in October 2006 and declared itself bankrupt in June 2008.
The bankruptcy filing was dismissed with prejudice by the Texas Bankruptcy Courts on 28th August 2008 and was found by the judge to have been submitted "in bad faith". This decision has serious implications for the company and its owners, the brothers Philip and Mark Brewer (also known as J Mark Brewer, Principal of Texas law firm Brewer and Pritchard).
The company purports to represent the Orthodox Church here in the UK and has an express vision of "Rescuing Britain's Christian Heritage" by taking over and reopening redundant churches. Buyer Beware! As of late August 2008, Third Space Books are being investigated by Amazon UK for reported breaches of the Associates Programme Operating Agreement.
